WE HAVE HOPE IN THE ALOHA SHIRT !
I am a big fan of The Aloha Shirt book, crammed with great detail, like the buttons and labels gallery section. I am curious why no one, such as Kahala, is licensing these original patterns, or why talented artists are not creating faithful homages to them? I have a collection of Kodachrome slides from the 1950s featuring people wearing aloha wear that outshine anything being created today, and am always hopeful about these designs being reintroduced.
Aloha Dale,
I remember you from when I was a lifeguard at the OCC in 1976-1977 and all the other folks from that era. Check out my website with old band pictures of my groups in Hawaii in our aloha shirts (1970′s-1980′s). You may also recognize John King in some of the pictures who played bass with me (I played drums/vocals) for about 8 years there. He lives in Seattle WA with wife and son, and I am still in touch with him.
I have been living in Jacksonville FL since moving from Hawaii in 1989 after I received my second degree (in Education) from UH. My first UH degree was in Anthropology (1974) . I have been working for many corporations here for the past 20 years here and raising my three kids. I received my MBA from the University of Florida in 1998. I work for Stein Mart Corporation in their Corporate office at this time. At 57, I still surf, play ukulele, ride longboard skateboards and love Hawaii and its lifestyle.
All the best to you and your family.

Today I went holo holo to Hollywood and stopped into a store called Wacko. There, while walking through the book section, I came upon your aloha shirt book and enjoyed it very much…very proud of you for publishing it! It brought back many fond memories of you, your dad and the women that worked there.
Mahalo!
WITH WARMEST ALOHA,
KATHY
